Starting out from Delhi, where we’ll enjoy a half day’s sightseeing, we journey first to Ranthambore National Park. One of the most famous reserves in India, Ranthambore is renowned for its tigers and is one of the best places to see these majestic predators in the wild. Tigers can be easily spotted even during the daytime.

En route to Agra we’ll stop by at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary with its thousands of exotic birds – including some highly endangered species, such as the Siberian crane. We’ll see the glorious old Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri and visit the Taj Mahal in the early morning – the best time to see this unmissable landmark.

The overnight train ride south to Jabalpur is an enjoyable and authentic Indian experience. We’ll then travel by road to Kanha National Park, often considered the most beautiful and most pristine wildlife reserve in the country. Its deciduous forests are remnants of the vast jungles which once covered central India, and still harbour a significant population of tigers, leopards, sloth bears, barasingha deer and dhole, the Indian wild dog. This is followed by a stay in Bandhavgarh, another prime tiger-spotting location which is also home to a large breeding population of leopards.

The final leg of the tour travels to the remarkable jungle temples of Khajuraho. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, these 10th-century structures were lost to the jungle until re-discovered in the 19th century. The exquisitely carved, erotic stone sculptures are among the finest temple art anywhere in the world.
