Tour Details
Heading north from Delhi, we’ll visit the lively town of Dehradun for a one-night stay: somewhat removed from the tourist trail, Dehradun is home to an excellent market and some interesting old temples. The route continues northeast into the foothills to reach Sankri, where the road ends and the trail begins.
Covering one of the least explored parts of Garhwal, the first phase of the trek to Osla passes through beautiful forests of chestnut, walnut, willows and chinars, to reach the village at an altitude of 2,500 metres. From here up to Har Ki Doon the trail is marked by remote villages, terraced fields, lush green meadows and conifer forests surrounded by glittering snow-covered peaks.
The cradle-shaped valley itself, reached on the third day of trekking, is dominated by the towering Swargarohini peak (6,252 metres). The huge valley is flanked by massive mountains on three sides - an utterly spectacular location, rich in wildlife and a veritable paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers.
We then retrace our steps back down to Sankri before travelling to Mussoorie, one of India’s most beautiful hill stations. There are numerous old buildings dating from the days of the Raj, and a pleasant holiday atmosphere pervades the resort.
