Sikkim & North-East

North-East India is the easternmost region of India consisting of the contiguous seven-sister States, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and the state of Sikkim.

The North East is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse regions in India. Each of the seven comprising states has its own culture and tradition. Lonely Planet called North-East the most varied and least visited part of India. Most of the North-East has only recently been opened for tourism.

Tucked away in the foothills of the Himalayas, Sikkim is a Himalayan wonderland with its lovely views, exotic orchids and its forest-trails. A virtual Shangrila overlooked by Mt. Kanchenjunga, the world’s third highest peak, Sikkim is attractive equally for the sightseer, the adventure sports enthusiast and those interested in Buddhism and Tibetology.

Descending from Sikkim, journey on to the plains of Assam visiting the world famous tea plantations, Kaziranga National Park, famous for its one-horned rhinoceros and elephants, and the panoramic Brahmaputra valley.

The region also has a high concentration of tribal population. The states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland are mostly inhabited by a variety of native tribes, each with a distinct tradition of art, culture, dance, music and life style.
