Gujarat is one the most prosperous states in India, forming as it does the most industrialised corridor between the Town of Mehsana in North Gujarat and Bombay in Maharashtra.
The cultural mix combined with over 4500 years of history has endowed Gujarat with some of the greatest historical and archaeological monuments. While Lothal offers an unparalleled insight of the Later Indus valley civilization (c 4000 BC), Ahmedabad has specimens of Indo-Sarcenic architecture, Palitana has a profusion of temples in the Jain style, Junagadh displays Buddhist caves and Rajput architecture appears all over different parts of Gujarat.
Gujarat is home to some to the most important endangered species in the world. The Asiatic Lion is now only found in the Gir forests. The Wild Ass in the Rann of Kutch, the rare great Indian bustard, the world's only four-horned antelope and Black Buck are some other valued species protected in Gujarat's national parks and bird sanctuaries.
A land of contrasts between old and new, tribal and modern, desert and sea, this state is worth a stop and easy to stay in with great infrastructure and diverse attractions to interest any discerning tourist. |
